A day in Box Hill

Box Hill is Melbourne's Asian food capital, and you go there hungry. Here is a day worth building around a game.

Box Hill Central

Box Hill Central is the beating heart of the suburb, one of Australia's busiest fresh-food markets and a maze of Asian grocers and food stalls. It is arguably Melbourne's best Chinese eating outside Chinatown, plus Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian and Vietnamese.

Dumplings and hotpot

The dumpling strip runs along Station and Main Streets, hand-pulled noodles, Shanghai dumplings and no-frills canteens, and for a big night there is Sichuan hotpot with tableside "dancing noodles" at the likes of Haidilao. Longstanding Tien Dat has served Vietnamese since 1983.

Box Hill Gardens

For some air, Box Hill Gardens on Station Street is a leafy park with a pond, ducks, two playgrounds, barbecues and a walking track, an easy family stop between meals.

…then the escape room

The easy part: Hawthorn is a short trip west, with three rooms and live availability below.
