A day in Melbourne CBD

The city packs a lot into a small grid. Here is a day worth building around a game, with the venues covered further down.

Laneways and coffee

Start where Melbourne does: the laneways. Degraves Street and Centre Place are the archetypal espresso alleys just north of Flinders Street Station, Hardware Lane is the European-style strip of bars and outdoor tables (Kirk's Wine Bar is a local favourite), and Patricia Coffee Brewers off Little Bourke Street is the standing-room specialty bar that helped define the city's coffee. Hosier Lane, opposite Federation Square, is the street-art laneway repainted so often no two visits look the same.

Art, culture and the river

The NGV on St Kilda Road is the best art museum in the country and free to walk into. Federation Square, the State Library forecourt and Chinatown on Little Bourke Street are all within a few blocks, and the Yarra River and Southbank promenade are a short walk south for a riverside drink.

Eating and a night out

The CBD is wall-to-wall dining, from Chinatown dumplings to the rooftop bars and the restaurants along the "Paris end" of Collins Street. Line up dinner and drinks either side of a game and you have a full night in the city.

…then the escape room

The easy part: South Yarra is one train stop or a short tram from the city. South Yarra's live availability is below, and the other three venues are a short trip out.

South Yarra: your nearest venue

From the CBD, South Yarra is one stop south on the Frankston or Sandringham line (about 3 minutes), a short tram down St Kilda Road, or a 20-minute walk across the river. The venue is at 160 Toorak Road, a 5-minute walk from South Yarra Station, six rooms to choose from.

Reasons to book an escape room near Melbourne CBD

Whatever the occasion, there is a Rush room close to Melbourne CBD to build it around. Each of these has its own guide if you want to go deeper.

A night out in the city, with a story

An escape room is the part of the night everyone remembers. Lock your group into an hour of problem-solving in the middle of the city, then spill out into the CBD's bars and restaurants either side of it. It beats standing in another queue, and it gives the group something to actually talk about over dinner.

An after-work team session

The CBD is where Melbourne works, and an escape room is the natural after-work or offsite outing: a genuine hour of problem-solving under pressure, minutes from the office by tram or train. Weekday daytime is our corporate window, larger teams split across rooms and race each other, and we price it by the room rather than per head.

Visiting Melbourne? A rainy-plan that is actually fun

In town for the weekend or a conference? An escape room is one of the best indoor things to do in Melbourne when the weather turns, an hour that has nothing to do with the aquarium or another gallery, and all four venues are a short trip from the city.

Date night in the middle of the city

A scary or high-pressure room is a strong first act, then walk it off over dinner in Chinatown or a rooftop bar. It beats dinner-and-a-movie and you will have plenty to talk about afterwards.
