A gift where the recipient makes every decision that matters

The failure mode of an experience gift is that it arrives with a date, a time and a specific thing already chosen, so what looks like a present is really an appointment somebody else made. This one does not work like that.

You choose a venue and an amount. Everything else is theirs. Which of the rooms, which night, who they bring, whether they go next month or in two years. The only thing you are committing them to is the building.

Three years, which is the point

Vouchers run for three years from purchase. That is deliberately longer than the twelve months most experience gifts allow, and it changes what the gift actually is.

A twelve-month expiry turns a present into a task. The recipient has to find a weekend, assemble people and coordinate diaries inside a window, and a fair proportion of those vouchers get used in a rush in the final fortnight or not at all. Three years removes that pressure entirely, and people use it when the occasion actually arrives.

And if it does expire anyway, email the venue. We reissue lost and expired vouchers, and we honour the price that was originally paid. A voucher bought three years ago at the rate of the day is still worth what it was worth, not what the number would buy today. Nobody at Rush benefits from a customer discovering a dead code.

How much to put on it

This is where most people guess, so here is the arithmetic. A voucher is a dollar value applied at checkout, so the useful question is what you want it to cover rather than what sounds like a reasonable number.

To cover a weekend game for two. A pair on a Saturday is $74 each, so think in terms of covering both.

To cover a full room. Six players at the weekend come in at $70 a head, which is the per-head floor. That is the number to work from if the gift is meant to cover the whole group rather than the recipient.

To cover a weeknight. Monday to Thursday, all day an adult is $50 where 3 or more play, so a midweek game costs meaningfully less to cover than a Saturday one.

Anything left over stays on the voucher, and anything short is simply paid at checkout, so an approximate amount is not a problem. Current rates for every day and group size are on prices and deals.

Choosing which venue to buy for

The one decision you cannot hand over. A voucher is valid on any room at the venue named on it, so pick by where the recipient will realistically go rather than by which venue sounds best.

  • South Yarra if they are in or near the city, or if you want them to have the widest choice. Six rooms, more than anywhere else.
  • Hawthorn for the inner east, and for anyone who would rather not drive. Three rooms, including the original HackSaw.
  • St Kilda for the bayside, and for a recipient whose taste you cannot predict. Its four rooms cover the full range from gentle to genuinely frightening.
  • Chadstone for the south east, and for the person who wants a hard puzzle rather than a fright. Parking on site.

Not sure? South Yarra is the safest default on room count and on transport. If you get it wrong, email the venue before they book rather than after.

Buying it late

Vouchers are emailed the moment the payment goes through, so this works as a same-day gift when something has gone wrong with the original plan. There is nothing in the post and nothing to wait for.

If handing over an email feels thin, there is a printable gift card above on this page. Print it, write the code inside, and the recipient has something to open. That is usually the difference between a gift that lands and a forwarded receipt.

Redeeming one you have been given

Go to the redeem page for the venue named on your voucher, choose a room and a time, and enter the code in the promotion or voucher field at checkout. The value comes off the booking there and then.

Two cases send you somewhere specific. Older vouchers with no venue printed on them, and anything purchased prior to 15 December 2019, are handled through the South Yarra redeem page no matter where you plan to play. Start there and we will sort it out. And if the code has been lost, or you cannot remember the balance, the venue can look it up.

Voucher questions

Can they use it on any room?

Any room at the venue on the voucher, including the horror rooms, subject to the age rating on whichever one they pick. Ratings are published on the scare scale.

What if the group is bigger than the voucher covers?

The balance is applied and the rest is paid at checkout. Nobody is blocked from booking because the voucher does not cover the whole thing.

I bought for the wrong venue.

Email the venue on the voucher before it gets used and explain the situation. It is easier to fix before a booking than after.

Can I buy a stack of them for staff or clients?

Yes. For anything beyond a handful, email enquiries@rushescapegame.com.au rather than buying them one at a time.

Is it a good present for someone who has never done one?

It is close to the ideal case, because they get to choose a room at whatever level suits them instead of being handed the one you picked. Point them at how escape rooms work and let them decide.
